25 Yummy Low-Calorie Snacks to Enjoy After Weight Loss Surgery

Taking control of your health is an achievement. After weight loss surgery, the journey continues. Living your healthiest life takes commitment — but, the reward for all of your hard work pays off with how amazing you feel as you embark upon your new life adventure.

During the first year after bariatric surgery, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery says most patients experience a weaker appetite that is easier to satisfy than before surgery. Naturally, this isn’t the green light to make unhealthy choices. In fact, the best long-term results come from sticking with a healthy eating plan. If you like to snack, listen up! Choose healthy options that benefit your body and leave you satisfied.

A note about post-op diet restrictions

If you’ve just had bariatric surgery, there are diet restrictions to keep in mind depending where you are in the healing process. In a recent post about lifestyle changes after weight loss surgery, we covered the different post-op phases and what you can eat during those times.

  • Week 1: Liquid diet of water and broth.
  • Weeks 2-4: Continue liquid diet. Can include smoothies and pureed meals.
  • Weeks 4-6: Can thicken meals as long as they are pureed. No solid foods.
  • Weeks 6-8: Begin slow transition to solid foods.

Taking baby steps is critical to your overall success. Here is a list of healthy low-calorie snacks you can introduce slowly into your routine around week 6 as you can transition to solid foods:
